In the past, plateaus would drive me crazy.
- I would get upset and frustrated.
- I would think I wasn’t making progress.
- I would double down on diet and exercise.
- I would skip meals and go for longer workouts.
- I would feel like a failure.
This was all a reaction to a number on a scale. It seems ridiculous now, but I would completely ignore the successes and progress I had made and fall into a trap of self-doubt. This thinking caused stress and strain on my body and more importantly, my mind.
The plateau would eventually become a floor, the losses would reverse and the weight would come back.
It is time to realize that plateaus are a blessing and they provide a wonderful opportunity to…
- Express gratitude for the progress you have made.
- Realize how much better you feel, both mentally and physically.
- Visualize what you want and why you want it. (Your goals and purpose)
- Review your habits and philosophies.
- Plan how you will proceed based on what you have learned.
- Be thankful and have faith that the change is happening.
Ultimately, a plateau is an opportunity to reflect upon and renew your goals and purpose. Instead of being a trigger for frustrations, it should be a time of peace, thanksgiving, and opportunity. Know that it is happening.
When you break through your plateau, it becomes nothing more than a stepping stone on your path to permanent weight loss success. Also, know that you will never come back to this weight again.
