It’s happening, and other people are starting to notice.
How should you handle a compliment? I used to cancel them out.
- “You look great.” – “No, I have 30 pounds to go.”
- “What have you been doing?” – “Diet and exercise. It has been hard!”
- “It looks like it is working.” – “Well, I have a long way to go.”
These old responses were self-defeating. I wasn’t grateful for my progress and I displayed doubts about my ability to achieve my goals.
So, how should you handle a compliment? With gratitude.
- “You look great.” – “Thank you.”
- “What have you been doing?” – “I’ve been thinking about my health and have made some small changes.”
- “It looks like it is working.” – “Thank you. It is working.”
Be thankful for every compliment that comes your way.
Answer every question in a thoughtful and positive manner.
Know that the change is happening and the compliments are evidence.
